Jude studied Fine Art Painting (BA Hons) at art school and has remained closely connected to her primary focus and passion – landscape. She feels a deep bond with the earth beneath her feet, and her work offers an escape into imagined spaces that can feel serene, beautiful, and calm, or at times, turbulent and raw. These landscapes are not always rooted in a specific location; instead, they are often abstracted visions, occasionally echoing a real place or a fleeting memory.
Through her paintings, Jude invites the viewer into these abstracted environments – to immerse themselves and discover their own meanings. You might sense mist or stillness, shifting weather, showers, breezes. Water appears frequently, and light is always present.
Each painting begins with an idea: a season, a colour palette, a suggested shape of land or water. Jude works intuitively at first, building up many layers of paint freely and spontaneously. As the piece evolves, it often changes dramatically in composition, colour, and form. Eventually, a slower, more contemplative phase begins – the refining process – where careful adjustments guide the painting toward completion.
