About the Artist

The eldest of seven children, Mackenzie grew up in the industrial town of Middlesbrough, in the north of England. He remembers a rich colourful childhood, filled with both love and struggle, when even as a young child, despite an absence of traditional drawing materials, he felt compelled to draw and create. It is fair to say, his early experiences inform his work to this day. Despite struggling at school with undiagnosed dyslexia, his creativity shone through; after a spell working in manual jobs, Mackenzie’s persistence and dedication to art won him a place at the then, Middlesbrough College of Art…
